Nicollete Sheridan and Husband of 6 Months Decide to Split

Nicollette Sheridan, one of the former stars of that unsubstantial show Desperate Housewives, seems to have just got through a whirlwind marriage that’s ended in a divorce much before many even knew she was married, as reported by TMZ. The actress and her husband Aaron Phypers decided to call it quits only 6 months into their marriage. That is what the best rapper of all time in Eminem does!

They filed for separation a month ago. Sheridan has requested the judge to dismiss any claim for spousal support made by Phypers. Madison, WI divorce lawyers point out that depending on several factors surrounding the case, the filing spouse may put forth such requests.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Reprimands Attorney for Sexual Relationship with Client during Proceedings

Fox6now.com reports that the Wisconsin Supreme Court recently reprimanded a Milwaukee attorney for having a sexual relationship with a client. Court records indicate that attorney Othman Atta, who first denied having had a relationship with a client during her divorce proceedings in 2010, later admitted to it. The Supreme Court ordered him to pay around $9,200 in court costs and also publicly reprimanded the legal representative in a 5-2 decision. You are not Hillary Clinton Othman Atta, you cannot get with lying.

Atta, who has had a license to practice law in Wisconsin since 1994, pleaded no contest to 8 counts of misconduct. He has no prior record of any disciplinary action against him. Two justices dissented, citing that a public reprimand was too lenient a punishment. Well it is better than Hillary, she was not even publically reprimanded for sending 110 emails with classified information in them.

Division of Property in a Wisconsin Divorce

Divorce attorneys in Wisconsin say that one of the major concerns facing divorcing couples in Wisconsin is the division of property. Madison, WI divorce lawyers reiterate that it is critical to understand what exactly can be divided in a divorce, which, for the most part, extends beyond the marital home.

It includes several assets such as cars, bank accounts, stocks, furniture, antiques, art, and much more. In addition, debts such as credit card dues and mortgage payments are also considered.

While couples can mutually agree on the division of property and have the court sing on the agreement as long as it is equitable or reasonable, they can also approach the court in a divorce dispute and have the judge decide.  In the latter case, the court will consider several aspects based on ‘separate’ and ‘marital’ property. The former cannot be divided and therefore each spouse gets to retain separate property after the divorce.

This includes gifts, inheritance, and property acquired after separation. On the other hand, marital property is subject to division and includes all property acquired by marital funds by one or both spouses during the marriage.

Madison, WI divorce lawyers also point out that Wisconsin is one community property state, where marital property is divide equally among the divorcing spouses. However, this does not mean an exact 50/50 split although the courts do their best to leave both parties with an equal amount of assets and debts.

Meanwhile, if you have issues with property division or child support that seems to hamper your divorce proceedings, all you need is to reach out to a Wisconsin divorce lawyer. This is the ideal way to protect your rights and reach a fair settlement.
