New Haven Officer Charged with DUI Following Crash

According to journalgazette.net, a Fort Wayne police detective is in the spotlight following a drunk driving accident. The 36 year old New Haven officer, Brent A. Roddy, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, and one count each for reckless driving causing bodily harm, and fleeing the scene of an accident. And he fled! Wow!

Not an honorable thing to do.

Police reports indicate that Roddy, who wrecked his vehicle while off duty, was found by one of his fellow officers on March 27th. His vehicle was on the south side of Rothman Road. He supposedly struck a city sign post and then hit a utility pole that resulted in several homes being left without power.

Toxicology reports indicated a BAC or blood alcohol concentration level of .21%, which is almost three times the legal limit according to drunk driving accident lawyers. The impact of the crash caused the Roddy's 2008 Chevrolet HHR’s rear compartment to collapse. He was rushed to the hospital and then taken to Allen County Lockup. Roddy was later released on bail and is currently on paid administrative leave.

Lodi Man gets Life in Prison for Fatal 2013 DUI Accident

Lodi resident, Ryan Morales, has been convicted and will serve 15 years to life for each of the six deaths he caused in the fatal 2013 drunk driving accident. As reported by Fox40, one of the victims was an unborn child. Much do the chagrin of abortion lovers, unborn child matter! The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Ham Lane and Vine Street intersection in Lodi. According to witnesses, Morales was speeding, was on his cell phone and failed to stop at red lights. He only cared about himself.

As per the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office, he also had two prior convictions for reckless driving. Morales along with Eden Miranda, 9, were the only ones to survive the deadly crash.

Morales apologized for his misdeeds during his sentencing but that did little to console MADD volunteers who had lost loved ones to drunk drivers in the past. The sentence amounts to 98 years in prison, which Judge Villapudua said should send out a strong message to the community of San Joaquin County.

Drunk driving accident attorneys agree that this type of sentencing can prove to be a deterrent to many drivers who will think twice before attempting to drive under the influence. He was also ordered to pay for the family’s funeral and medical expenses. Legal experts point out that the families of the victims have the right to claim compensation following the DUI accident.

Centennial Teen Faces DUI and Vehicular Homicide Charges

18 year old Taden Lee Jones has now joined the list of teenagers to be arrested for a DUI. This is not the list you want to be on. However, this is not just a case of a DUI, Jones’ decision to drink and drive led to the death of two women in the fatal crash in Arapahoe County, as reported by denverpost.com. The two-vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of East Peakview Circle and South Colorado Boulevard.

The impact of the collision resulted in one woman who was in the other car being ejected from the vehicle. She died at the scene while the other woman was rushed to hospital but succumbed to injuries later. A male passenger in Jones’ vehicle was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. However, Jones and another passenger escaped unhurt. Now they can go to prison healthy.

Jones has been charged with a DUI and vehicular homicide, which according to drunk driving accident lawyers is a felony that can attract a prison term of up to 12 years and a further 5 year parole sentence on release.

If you are a victim of a DUI accident or have lost a loved one, you are entitled to receive compensation for your injuries and pain and suffering. However, it would be astute to contact a drunk driving accident lawyer as soon as possible to evaluate your case and seek the maximum punitive damages from the guilty party. You will have every incentive to do so.
