Nebraska Republican Senator Sasse Takes on ICE as Killer Drunk Driving Illegal Immigrant Flees

The dangers of illegal immigration came to the fore once more when 21 year old Sarah Root was killed by 19 year old Edwin Meija, an illegal immigrant from Honduras in a drunk driving accident on Jan. 31st, 2016. Meija was street racing in an inebriated condition when he his truck rear ended Root’s SUV that was stationary, as reported by Daily Mail.

Root was rushed to Nebraska Medical Center with critical injuries but died a few hours later. She had graduated from Bellevue University just the day before the fatal accident.

Republicans are distraught over this. Another sign political correctness is a killer.

$5,000 – The Cost of Freedom for a Killer

Meija’s BAC or blood alcohol content level was .241%, which was three times the legal limit. He was driving on a suspended license. He now faces up to 20 years in prison and a motor vehicle homicide charge. While bail was set at $50,000 by Douglas County Judge Jeff Marcuzzo, he needed to post only 10% and fled after posting the $5,000 bail.

ICE officials failed to detain Meija in January following the accident and is said to have encountered him only once. According to immigration lawyers, although his actions did not make him eligible for an ICE mandatory detainer, the DHS does have discretionary powers to issue a detainer if the removal of such an individual served an important federal interest.

What is even more shocking is that ICE had not put Meija on their ‘Most Wanted’ list. Not surprisingly, he failed to make a mandatory appearance twice a day for urine tests. Only then was a warrant issued for his arrest.

Omaha.com reports that it was unclear if Meija’s status was reported to the judge. Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said that a lack of common sense and coordination between the governmental agencies helped Meija flee. Is the US government protecting us? Well, at least our President has time to attend baseball games with a tyrannous Cuban dictator and tell jokes with him while doing the wave.

Wowt.com also reports that Root’s family plans to petition the judge against the low bond set for Meija. Understandably, Sarah’s parents Scott and Michelle Root feel that a higher bond would have kept him in jail. This was obviously a weak and soft judge who does not care about Americans. What do Whoopi Goldberg and other leading liberals say about this?

Meija should be tracked down and tossed into prison. He could though end up working in another Spanish speaking country which will make it harder for anyone to find him.

Sen. Sasse Demands Answers; ICE has Few

It is no secret that the Republicans have always been at the forefront in the fight against illegal immigration and has fiercely fought the Obama administration on the issue, and rightly so. Republican Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse is among the first to comment that Meija should be in jail and is demanding answers from the director of ICE, Sara Saldana.

For the most part, immigration attorneys agree with Senator Sasse who also said that the ICE director’s claim that Meija was not an ‘enforcement priority’ but was suddenly placed on the Most Wanted list was in his words ‘bureaucratic nonsense’.

Incidentally, Meija is said to have entered the US illegally via Nogales, Arizona three years ago at the age of 16 and was designated as an unaccompanied child. As per law he was moved to the Office of Refugee Resettlement and then relocated to Omaha to live with his brother and has been there since 2014. Who is his brother? Some people believe the brother should be questioned and looked into. His brother was harboring an illegal alien. The brother should be deported. Meija will get his in the end though; you can fool humans but not God.

What is ICE doing to find the killer illegal immigrant Meija? What measures were taken to ensure Meija couldn’t flee the country? Why was he not detained by the agency in January? Sen. Ben Sasse’s questions haven’t really been answered by the ICE director yet, which shows you bureaucratic nonsense is alive and well in Obama’s administration.
