Women Injured in Drunk Driving Chase on I-5 Near Ravenna

According to a komonews.com report, a young woman crashed her vehicle in the wee hours of the morning in Ravenna. Washington State Patrol reports that the vehicle passed a state trooper at a speed of 90 mph. When the trooper flashed his lights to make the vehicle stop the woman refused to relent, as a result of which the I-5 bore witness to a high speed chase where the women reached speeds of 100 mph.

She wanted to go fast and she did. Total reckless abandon. No regard for the law or other people’s safety.

She even tried to evade the trooper by taking the exit ramp of NE 65th Street. According to Seattle, WA DUI lawyers, drivers are obligated to stop in the event of an accident. Failure to do so attracts additional charges.

At this point the trooper gave up the pursuit by switching off the emergency lights but followed her as she made her way through Ravenna. Shortly afterwards she crashed her vehicle with another car parked on the side of the street ending on top of the parked car. That is impressive!

The trooper noticed signs of impairment but thankfully she suffered only minor injuries. The Seattle Police Department reported an increasing number of DUI cases on that day where every trooper had to deal with at least one DUI because it was St. Patrick’s Day. Were these real DUIs or is the liberal city of Seattle just want more money? Most were probably real DUIs but there are probably a few out there that were probably given out just to satisfy some sort of quota.

You may never be this foolish but do not rule out ever having issues with the law. You can receive a DUI ticket after just drinking a few sips, you do not know what that breathalyzer machine will read. Desperate cities hand out DUI tickets like someone is forcing them too. If you need legal help, go right here: DUI-USAttorneys.com. The high tech people in Seattle should find that website enlightening and convenient.

Washington Legislature Seeks to Pass Tough DUI Laws during the Final Days of the Present Session

Compared to other states DUI laws in Washington are somewhat lax. In Washington, drivers get a felony charge after their 5th DUI and law makers are trying to toughen the laws, which is a move welcomed by DUI attorneys in Washington as well.

Bipartisan lawmakers brought three new bills to strengthen penalties for drunk-driving violations. Sen. Mike Padden, Rep. Roger Goodman, and Rep. Brad Klippert spoke at a news conference about the proposals that they have bought to change the law.

In Senate Bill 5105 brought by Padden, drivers caught for their fourth DUI offense can face prison time. Previously SB 5105 was passed unanimously by the senate many times but the bill was stalled in the House every time. Goodman explains that this is because the representatives are wary of the state costs of incarcerating people and overcrowded prisons.

Seattletimes.com reports that the bill will increase state expense by $9 million spread over a period of 5 years. This is mainly due to the prosecution costs and case shuffling. Once the new bill becomes law, the courts will have to try 251 new cases.

Lawmakers believe that injuries and deaths caused by drunk drivers are avoidable and Padden thinks that the price paid by the family of the victims are much higher and therefore money is not Padden’s paramount consideration. But don’t the DUI fines pay for everything?

Rep. Klippert has brought another bill which aims at toughening penalties for DUI convictions. Habitual offenders are charged with Class B felony that carries a fine of $20,000 and 10 year prison term. Ten years? Wow! That seems pretty high. Earlier repeat offenders received a class C felony charge, fine of $10,000 and prison term of 5 years, according to Seattle, WA DUI lawyers.

Washington Drunk Driving Laws

Washington prosecutes adults found to be driving with a BAC of .08% or higher and people under the age of 21 with a BAC of .02% for DUI violations. For commercial drivers the legal limit is .04%.

If you are looking at heavy penalties and jail time for a DUI violation don’t waste time speaking with a Seattle DUI lawyer immediately. The faster you act to engage a legal professional, the better it is for your defense. Legal representatives need time to prepare counter measures to counter the prosecution’s charges.
