In the midst of a sexual scandal that led to the resignation and
dismissal of important faculty members at UC Berkeley, 26 fresh similar cases
have come to light. Immediately after these new cases were reported several
prominent faculty members have begun criticizing the administration for not
dealing with the harassment complaints in a meaningful and swift fashion.
Does this liberal college not respect woman or what? Or is any little
minor thing considered sexual harassment? What is going on over here?
Failure to heed any complaints of harassment or discrimination can result
in an employer or institution being held
liable in the case of a lawsuit and sexual harassment lawyers being involved.
Professor of Sociology Michael Burawoy said that the administration is
trying to cover-up the incidents of harassment in a bid to keep the university
attractive for parents who send their kids here and donors who replenish the
funds.
Professor Leslie Salzinger for Gender and Women’s Studies (not really something
you want to pay $100,000 for a degree in) is of the opinion that sexual harassment
is prevalent in almost every workplace in the US. She found the response of the
administration shocking and confounding. She claims that the administration is
showing more concern and compassion towards the harasser’s future than that of
the victim.
Is it really sexual harassment or are Americans being too sensitive? That
is the ultimate question. Now what is going on in Germany with Arab males and
German females is frightening and unacceptable. Certain cultures do not respect
woman so why respect those cultures?
Statements by University
Spokesperson
Janet Gilmore, spokesperson for UC Berkeley, said that several senior
campus leaders sat with sexual harassment experts to figure out strategies that
might be implemented to initiate reforms. Gilmore said that they are presently
dealing with 17 cases of sexual harassment and 9 cases of sexual violence
(females should consider carrying a gun on campus if it is this bad) all of
which are under investigation.
Gilmore also said that the university is committed to combating sexual
harassment and violence on campus. She asserted that even though they have made
great improvements in student-on-student cases there is scope for doing much
more.
Disciplinary Action Taken by the
University against Faculty
The university terminated assistant coach Yann Hufnagel of the men’s
basketball team when he was found guilty of violating the schools sexual
harassment policies. Even though he asserted that the charges against him
leveled by a reporter is baseless, he actually confessed to a school
investigator that he wanted to trick the female reporter to come to his room
and that he was guilty for initiating sexual advances. The report of the
investigation revealed Hufnagel’s behavior as intimidating, offensive, and
objectionable. He basically suggested to her that he will help her gain access
to sections of sport’s ambit if she participates in sex with him, which is a
classic case of quid pro quo harassment according to sexual harassment
attorneys.
Immediately after the Hufnagel episode, Sujit Choudhry, Dean of Berkeley’s
law school, resigned when he was charged for harassing his executive assistance
Tyann Sorrell. As a punishment his salary was reduced by 10% for a year.
However, Sorrell found the punishment inadequate. She hired a sexual harassment
lawyer and filed a lawsuit against the university.
Reports by theguardian.com suggest that it was only
after the lawsuit was made public that UC President Janet Napolitano (the same
person who refused to protect Americans from dangerous criminal illegal aliens
and to secure America’s southern border) wrote to Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas
Dirks and the other chancellors to take prompt steps to stop the harassment.
She called for an establishment of a peer review committee to deliberate and
determine sanctions that can be brought against faculty members who are found
indulging in sexual harassment.
Napolitano also made it clear that Choudhry was not to set foot on the
campus again and that Graham Fleming, who resigned from the position of vice
chancellor for research due to a harassment charge but was still on the UC
payroll, must be sacked. Many people believe Napolitano should be sacked for
attacking free speech. She does not believe America can an exceptional country
despite America’s military might making this world safe for billions of people.
She believes phrases that “America is exceptional”, “America is a melting pot”,
and “America is a land of opportunity” should be outlawed. This type of
thinking is just ludicrous but fits well in bankrupt California.
If you
believe you are a victim of sexual harassment at the workplace or college, it is time to reach out to
a sexual harassment lawyer. Your legal professional will figure out ways to end
the harassment and sue the harasser for compensation your rightfully and
systematically deserve.
You have enough pressures in life, someone mistreating you at work is not
right and this type of behavior is not conducive maintaining a happy society. You
have the right to work in peace and not have to tolerate this type of behavior.
This is not Cuba or Saudi Arabia, all females have the right to work hard and
go about their business without facing such ridiculous distractions.
