Panel in Minnesota Unanimously Agree to Harsher Hate Crime Penalties Following Applebee’s Assault

It looks like hate crime perpetrators will be subjected to much more severe repercussions going forward after Minnesota legislators took a vote in which majority law makers were in agreement that consequences for such crimes were too unsubstantial at the moment.

According to criminal defense lawyers, amendments to the state laws in Minnesota will stiffen penalties after the Senate Judiciary Committee voted in a legal measure that would sharply increase maximum penalties for crimes such as felony assaults by as much 25% of the current maximum sentence if it transpires that the crime was sparked due to bias having to do with the victims ethnicity or faith, according to a twincities.com report.

So you mean those black youths that are beating up on white people, they will be punished more severely? If it is happens in Minnesota of course.

Right Minnesota, this goes both ways right? This is not just political correctness speaking hopefully. If black youths beat up on a white person which has been going on in America for a few years now, they will be punished accordingly right?

Woman Attacked by Fellow Customer for Speaking Foreign Language

The whole ordeal was only thrown under the spot light and action was taken after a woman from Somalia who could not speak English was physically attacked solely because she could not speak English. The woman in the case has been identified as Asma Jama and she has confirmed that she was attacked by another customer at the Coon Rapids Applebee’s restaurant in October of 2015 simply because she was speaking in Swahili, one of the oldest languages in the world.

There is nothing wrong with speaking a different language in America but just do not expect anyone to understand it. English should be the official language in America, it is not though, but it is still the dominate and normally used language in this country.   

In this particular case, prosecutors particularly charged the perpetrator with third degree assault and not hate crime, even though it actually was a hate crime, simply because as per the letter of the law, a hate crime would only be treated as a gross misdemeanor.
