The economic weather in Oklahoma was
gloomy to say the least and Governor Mary Fallin acted by implementing what was
termed as a personnel freeze in order to improve and stabilize the economy. So
what did the personnel freeze entail?
Tulsa, OK workers’ compensation lawyers
confirm that it basically prohibited its departments from hiring new employees
and from giving their current employees salary raises. This freeze was put if
effect just over one year ago, but only recently has a number been uncovered
which have raised a few eye brows, as reported by newson6.com. This is something the federal
government needs to do since it is a runaway train and so many employees on the
federal level are not exactly hard workers nor do they respect the US tax
payer.
Despite the freeze, as many as 13,387
exemptions were made. It was declared when the freeze was put into effect that
exemptions would be allowed, but 13,387 is a huge number and it’s almost as if
there was no freeze at all say workers compensation attorneys in Oklahoma.
When the freeze was announced, Governor
Fallin had made it clear that any exemptions would have to go through the
respective cabinet secretary and be approved.
Freeze
was only a management tool says finance secretary
However, finance secretary Preston
Doerflinger said in an interview with the press that the whole executive action
was just another management tool that the government had at their disposal and
they used it as they wanted. As per Doerflinger, the whole intention of the
freeze was to add a second pair of eyes over personnel decisions and especially
those substantial enough to affect the budget considerably.
The freeze did not only restrict hiring
and pay raises but also effected things such as reinstatements, promotions etc.
and workers compensation lawyers in Tulsa, OK
were intrigued by these actions. Why is this not being done at the federal
level is what many Americans would like to know?
Governor Fallin acknowledged that she
was aware of the number of exemption’s that were made during her freeze period
in a television interview. Fallin further claimed that the freeze was a success
as far as they were concerned as it achieved a tangible record of all the
personnel moves that took place during the period of the freeze itself. That,
she says, was the objective of freeze in the first place.
Fallin defended the number of exemptions
made saying that there were 22,000 personnel moves made the year prior to the
freeze and that was evidence that the freeze had successfully cut down that
number by almost 50%.
WPX Energy’s Oklahoma office to be shut down
According to a report in tulsaworld.com, WPX have announced that
they will close the gates of their Oklahoma City office by mid-year and plan to
relocate nearly 33 employees over to Tulsa. Unfortunately, 60 employees from
the office will have their contracts terminated. The Obama recession continues
hard and strong.
The organization will be offering the
employees a severance package, cash equivalent of up to 12 months COBRA, pay
for the remainder of the financial year of 2016, and out placement assistance. Not
a bad deal. When Barney Frank ruined Fannie Mae, did he make sure this
happened? Well, probably not since no one was laid off from that organization
despite serious and calamitous errors being made and worker’s compensation
lawyers taking cover like everyone as the country experienced a horrendous real
estate downfall. WPX seems to have some thought going into this. Good for them!
