32 year old
Paterson resident, Mario Funes, collided head on with a car driven by 64 year
old Luis Feliz. The latter’s car overturned due to the impact killing him within
minutes. Funes was westbound on an eastbound lane. Funes was found intoxicated
in his pickup truck when apprehended by the police. He was charged with DWI
while the police said other criminal charges were pending as well, as reported
by NBC. Funes had so far not retained the services
of a drunk driving accident lawyer.

NY Judge Arrested for DUI
A Rochester judge was on her way to
attend court proceedings when she was pulled over by a NYPD officer and was
subsequently arrested for a DUI. Leticia Astacio was stopped by New York State
Troopers on I-490 when she was traveling westbound near Mount Read Boulevard.
State troopers said that they were responding to a call regarding an accident
in the area involving a single car, according to a CBS report.
When she was pulled over she was asked
to submit to a breathalyzer test which she refused. According to drunk driving
accident lawyers, the state has adopted the implied consent law where drivers
consent to submit to breath, blood, and urine tests when they receive their
driver’s license. Refusing to submit to tests will result in the automatic
suspension of the driver’s license privileges for one year.
Remember, driving is a privilege, not a
right. In countries like Cuba and North Korea, you do not have any rights at
all. In Cuba in fact, you cannot even own your own land. The state owns the
land, that is why they cannot grow enough food in Cuba because why work hard if
you cannot make a profit?
Astacio who was elected in 2014 to the
current judicial post was served an appearance ticket and released. She will
have to appear before the court in March.
Two
Injured and One Dead in Long Island Hit and Run
Kathy Horan, 61, was travelling east on
Granny Road in Medford, NY in a 2014 Hyndai Santa Fe when she struck
28-year-old Peter Quoma who was standing outside his vehicle, according to
Suffolk County police reports. He was immediately transported to Brookhaven
Memorial Hospital Medical Center but was dead on arrival.
The other two passengers in the 1997
Nissan Maxima suffered minor injuries and have received treatment at Stony
Brook University Hospital, as reported by pix11.com. Drunk driving accidents
attorneys believe that Horan could face charges of DUI
vehicular homicide.
Horan had also hit another woman who was
standing beside her parked vehicle. She was seriously injured and was taken to
Brookhaven Memorial Hospital for treatment. Horan fled from both scenes of
accident. The police have charged her with fleeing an accident scene that
involved a death and fleeing an accident scene that involved a serious injury.
She is being held in Sixth Precinct and her arraignment will take place in
Central Islip’s first District Court. Legal experts say that the victim’s
estate has the right to claim compensation following the DUI accident.
Horan is in trouble to say the least.
A Drunk
Driving Accident Lawyer is what You Need
To defend
yourself in a drunk driving accident case you need a drunk driving
accident lawyer. General personal injury lawyers are not qualified enough to
handle such accident cases. Penalties for vehicular homicide and hit and run
are severe and often attract a prison term of up to 20 to 30 years.
But often there are ways a legal
representative can discredit a witness during a cross examination or evidence
using a forensic expert. Moreover, a legal pro will conduct his or her own
investigation using a crash investigator to identify if there is any fault in
the police investigation and focus on protecting your rights.
