An ex resident of Fayetteville named
Jeremy Bruns and his spouse Jenny have jointly filed a lawsuit against the state
of North Carolina, the state where Michael Jordan is from and the same state
with the Super Bowl team which is the Carolina Panthers, where they allege that
a woman who was convicted of drunken driving did not serve sufficient prison
time, according to fayobserver.com.
The woman in question was convicted of driving under the influence after she
caused an accident in which Jeremy Bruns lost both his legs and a
part of his arm. Additionally, Mr. Bruns has also named the drunk driver, her
husband, and their son as defendants in the lawsuit which the couple filed
themselves as they were unable to find a Fayetteville, NC DUI lawyer or any
legal professional to represent them.
Superior Court Judge Reuben Young has
been requested to dismiss the case by defending attorneys of all the defendants
and has instead been asked to consider other alternatives to improve the
situation. Young did make a comment to the press where he remarked that he is
yet to come to a decision and will do so by next Monday.
Jeremy Browns on the other hand also
spoke to media personnel and said that he was not doing this for the money but
rather as a matter of principle. He wants to hold the USAA and everyone
responsible for what happened to him accountable and wants to ensure that
justice is served.
The drunk driver has been identified by
police reports as Rhonda Renee Sutton also from Fayetteville and she was said
to be drunk and high on cocaine when she caused the accident that left Bruns
disabled. According to Fayetteville, NC DUI attorneys, judges usually way
mitigating and aggravating factors when determining the sentence in a DUI
accident case.
Perpetrator
of drunk driving accident that killed a franklin county teacher facing criminal
charges
The woman that killed a Rocky Mount
Elementary School Teacher in a drunken driving crash in November has now been
slapped by Franklin County prosecutors with charges of manslaughter and one
count of first offense DUI.
According to a Roanoke.com report, the woman has been
identified as 56 year old Lesley Connor Wildasin who comes from Eden. The
deceased in the case has also been identified as 49 year old Donna Minnick.
Minnick was traveling in her Nissan
Versa when Wildasin’s Dodge Journey veered across the center line and struck
her head on. Minnick died on the scene according to emergency medical technicians
while Wildasin was transported to a hospital nearby where her medical condition
was said to be stable while her injuries were non-life threatening.
North
Carolina still battling the issue of underage drinking
After their recent Booze it & Lose
it campaign which sought to curb drunken driving in North Carolina, the state
has now introduced yet another campaign specifically to deal with underage drinking and driving. The campaign
is called Talk It Out and is the brain child of Gov. Pat McCrory, as reported
by dailytarheel.com.
Central West North Carolina DUI lawyers
across the state are in agreement that the campaign makes sense and will create
awareness among young people and parents alike about the dangers of alcohol
abuse at a young age.
