Divorce Petition Filed by Kalamazoo Shooter’s Wife

Wife of Jason Dalton, who was charged for a mass shooting spree that killed 6 people, has filed a petition for a divorce. Carole Dalton filed a divorce petition in the Kalamazoo County Circuit Court stating that there had been a complete breakdown in the marriage, as reported by nbcdfw.com.

Why did this breakdown not occur before the shooting? Dallas, TX divorce lawyers believe this divorce is a little too late but still probably necessary.

The Uber driver has reportedly shot eight people in three different locations, six of whom died from the wounds. He was charged with two counts of attempted homicide and six counts of homicide. He was married with two kids, who were 10 and 15 years old, respectively. He worked at an appraisal’s firm earning $50,000 per year and supplemented his income by working as an Uber driver.

Collaborative Divorce Set to do Away with Age-Old Court Battles

Every year Texas roughly sees about 75,000 divorces. But strangely less than 7,000 couples have obtained their divorce through the collaborative process in spite of the fact that it was one of the first states in 1991 to recognize collaborative divorce. Star-telegram.com reports that the Collaborative Law Institute operating from Dallas is trying to initiate some changes so that more and more people become receptive to the idea of getting a collaborative divorce. They have also renamed the institute as Collaborative Law Texas.

According to Dallas, TX divorce attorneys this type of divorce requires various professionals such as family therapists, lawyers, and financial planners. The institute has started training these specialists to prepare them for future collaborative divorce cases.

Other than training, the institute will also review the credentials of aspiring collaborative divorce practitioners. If their education and their experience satisfies their peers then they will be accredited by the instituted by awarding a level one badge.

Curtis Harrison II, an attorney whose practice also includes collaborative law, said that there were lots of lawyers who claim to be collaborative divorce experts but in reality they hardly have the expertise to make such a claim. They are not like David Lee in The Good Wife who is a family law and divorce legal professional extraordinaire.

The website collaborativedivorcetexas.com will list the legal counselors who have been accredited by the institute. Moreover the website will give a clear idea why collaborative law is concrete alternative and thereby popularize the legal concept, which is a sound move according to astute Dallas, TX divorce attorneys.

Scott Clarke who is a certified financial planner and co-author of Divorce: The Collaborative Way said that in comparison to court ordered settlements, collaborative divorce gives couples freedom to split their assets in a way they are comfortable.

Collaborative divorces are not possible in cases where there are domestic violence and financial fraud. However cases that involve drugs, infidelity, alcohol, and drug are regularly follow the collaborative divorce route, say divorce lawyers in Texas. According to them, collaborative divorces take into account the interests of all the parties during negotiations.

There are number of creative solutions to problems that can be undertaken in this type of a divorce, which is simply not possible in traditional systems. One of the major benefits is that when there are children involved a therapist can formulate a detailed plan for parenting with the aid from parents.
