Northern Illinois Nursing Home Receives Citation for Scabies Outbreak

Valley Hi Nursing home in Woodstock, IL was recently cited by the authorities for a scabies outbreak, as reported by theeagle.com. The facility in northern Illinois is run by McHenry County. Authorities confirmed that the outbreak was due to poor infection control, which remarkable nursing home abuse lawyers say is one of the common causes of abuse and neglect.

According to Thomas Annarella, the nursing home’s administrator, they are currently in the process of implementing treatment and training in a bid to handle further outbreaks of the contagious skin disease.

Valley HI has been directed to submit a correction plan to the Illinois Department of Public Health within a week and correct any shortcomings by Sept. 3rd. Health officials are in the process of determining whether the facility should be fined.

Some people believe the executives who gave themselves bonuses at the VA while military veterans were dying should be put in prison.

Former Decatur Nursing Home Office Manager gets Prison Term for Fraud and Embezzlement

34 year old Kristin Chaudoin of Decatur, a former office manager of North Church Nursing and Rehabilitation in Jacksonville and Decatur-based Lincoln Rehabilitation Center, has been sentenced to 8 months in prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement on August 5th of last year. She also pleaded guilty to wire fraud and using an illegal access device.

Nursing home abuse lawyers do not tolerate the mistreatment of the elderly and no society should.
As reported by thetelegraph.com, Chaudoin admitted to stealing from four residents located at the two nursing home facilities. She has also been ordered to pay $40,750.24 in restitution. Nursing home abuse attorneys point out that financial abuse is also one of the major concerns at such facilities.

Illinois State Police Capt. Brian Ley was hopeful that their investigations would act as a deterrent to nursing home abuse and reduce the amount of financial fraud and embezzlement crimes against the elderly in the state. The Social Security Administration’s Office of Inspector General (SSA-OIG) and the Medicaid fraud control division of the Illinois State Police conducted an 8-month long investigation following a complaint filed on Dec. 4th, 2013, citing possible embezzlement of several residents’ trust funds.

Chaudoin was sentenced by a US District judge who also ordered her to serve 8 months of home confinement following her federal prison term in addition to three years of supervised release. Several other federal agencies were involved in the investigations and included the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and Jacksonville Police Department.

Nursing home abuse lawyers explain that Illinois State Police’s Medicaid Fraud Control Bureau (MFCB) was established back in 1978 to investigate cases of fraud and abuse of the Medicaid Provider Program. This includes fraudulent billing by doctors and healthcare providers, financial abuse of the elderly, and theft of controlled substances by nursing home staff, to name a few.

Meanwhile, if you believe a nursing facility is responsible for abuse and neglect of your loved one, all you need is to consult an astute nursing home abuse lawyer. This is the best way to protect your rights and hold the facility liable for their wrong doings.
