Man from Burlington Gets Two Year Sentence for Bankruptcy and Tax Fraud

According to a news release by the US Department of Justice, a man from Burlington has been handed a two year prison sentence for tax fraud and bankruptcy fraud. The perpetrator has been identified by as 59 year old Faiger Blackwell, and he has been found guilty of not disclosing rental income after having filed for bankruptcy back in 2007 where he declared both himself and a funeral home business of being pitifully bankrupt.

Blackwell had amassed an astounding $300,000 in federal taxes that was pending payment and in excess of a million dollars in other debts and according to prosecutors he filed for bankruptcy as an easy way to get himself out of this predicament without having to actually pay all of the outstanding money that he owed the government and other lenders, according to greensboro.com.

Not good! Americans are overtaxes but you have to pay something. You cannot just not pay any taxes, that is not going to work. You need to pay the people back that financially supported you too unlike that irresponsible character in Star Wars called Hans Solo.

For the most part, concealing assets from the government is a crime punishable by law warn tax lawyers following the case. Two years after he filed bankruptcy, in 2009, the Internal Revenue System levied Blackwell’s bank accounts as due process which is followed when someone declares bankruptcy.

However, Blackwell now opened another bank account into which he deposited his rental income so that the Internal Revenue System authorities would not become aware that he was not actually bankrupt. The new bank account served to help Blackwell get around the levy and have access to his rental income and tax attorneys have seen this type of deception before.

You can run from the tax man, but you cannot hide! Blackwell’s plot was unraveled and he was charged with one count of concealment of assets from a bankruptcy estate and one count of impeding the due administration of the internal revenue laws, to both of which he pleaded guilty.

A judge has sentenced Blackwell to two years imprisonment and a further three years supervision following release from prison. He has also been ordered to pay $404,619 in restitution. He may as well just remain in prison with that type of debt.

Now if Government Motors or GM could just pay back its $16,000,000,000 it owes Uncle Sam, us, that would be outstanding.

Hans Solo went through life looking over his back because he owed so many people money. Not impressive! Don’t be a Hans Solo, do not make your life a financial nightmare. Go right here: Tax.USAttorneys. Hire a tax lawyer to make your life easier.
