Man Finally Sentenced to 11 Years for a Crash that Caused Havoc on Route 287

24-year old Freddie Wright of Newark was sentenced to 11 years in State Prison for leading a 2014 vehicle chase that led to a shutdown of Route 287. The Newark resident was driving a stolen vehicle between Essex and Somerset counties and hit a minivan. This high speed chase also led into a collision with a Bernards Township Police vehicle which injured two people, one being a state trooper.

Basking Ridge, NJ accident lawyers are soaking up every detail about this case.

This incident started in around the afternoon on the 11th of August when a state trooper tried to stop the Jeep after running its plates and realizing it was a stolen vehicle. During the pursuit the jeep is said to have touched more than 100 mph. Following the crashes on Route 287, the highway was shut down for several hours.

According to The Washington Times, Wright had an eight-month pregnant woman in the stolen vehicle. The woman gave birth the next day.

The assistant prosecutor Giordano, who was in charge of the case, said that Wright should be made to serve at least 85% of his sentence before he is even made eligible for parole. He also added that it was a miracle that more lives were not taken and there were no more fatalities as the defendant shut down Route 287 - which is a major interstate.

The release said that on January 5th, just prior to the trial opening, Wright pled guilty to eluding and other charges, NJ.com reports. Wright made the wrong choice and Basking Ridge, NJ accident lawyers know about that. Wright has probably been making the wrong choices for years now. Hopefully he sees the light while being locked away.

Car Accident Claim

If you have been injured in a car crash, there are a few vital points that you should keep in mind. Here is a look at tips to handle your car accident claim:

·         The first to do is to report the accident to your auto insurance provider. Under New Jersey’s no fault law, regardless of who caused the accident, your insurance provider is responsible for your medical bills and if you need a New Jersey accident attorney, then you need to call one up and hire them if your case is viable and if you are running into trouble in this matter.
·         Check the coverage that is included in your automobile insurance policy regarding PIP benefits. It is important to know your co-pay and deductible amounts for medical bills. Make sure that you keep track of the bills, what you owe, and what you have paid. Your deductible and co-pay amount should not be exceeded. The next step is to submit the amount due to your health insurance company. You can also ask your attorney to contact your doctor to request that they accept a lien on any settlement or judgment they help you obtain.
·         If your injuries prevent you from returning to work immediately, you should report it to your employer. Submit a note from your doctor with information about your medical condition and project when you may be able to return to work. Do not try to work when you are literally falling apart like the Wyoming tree cutter does in the show Ax Man. You have to know when to rest and being too gung ho can make you look silly. Now Shelby is hilarious!
·         If you have been unable to work for more than 1 week and suffering loss of income due to your injuries, you may be entitled to New Jersey State Disability Benefits as well as Salary Continuation Benefits from your auto insurance provider. Check your policy and contact the State Unemployment Disability Office in our area about applying for benefits. You can also visit the Temporary Disability website.

Use all available resources to make yourself whole again. This not your fault. Someone else should feel the brunt of your pain and their mistake.

If you are considering filing a claim against the driver who caused the accident, remember that in New Jersey, there are time limits when it comes to filing a lawsuit for personal injury. It is best to act quickly and make sure that you do not waive your rights. You need a Basking Ridge, NJ accident lawyer on your side ASAP!
