Secretary of Veteran Affairs Says VA Healthcare will be Modernized

It is common news that our veterans do not get the healthcare they deserve and that this is a problem all across the country despite President Obama’s campaign promise to make the VA better. Under his watch, selfish and inept bureaucrats gave themselves bonuses while veterans died.

This point brings up something Thomas Jefferson said: “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.”

In fact, many medical malpractice lawyers in Jackson, MS are of the opinion that that the healthcare scheduling systems in most veterans offices are so obsolete and that the computer programming used in their systems are outdated (the languages date back to the seventies).

As reported by clarionledger.com, on a trip to the Jackson Veterans Affairs, Veterans Affairs Secretary, Robert McDonald, said that the medical system would be completely modernized and revolutionized and that his office will soon take big steps to prevent malpractice and hospital neglect and provide healthcare to America’s 22 million or so veterans.

Medical malpractice attorneys in Mississippi say that these advances will begin next week as the veterans’ office expects the president to announce a substantial increase in the budget for veteran’s affairs exclusively. The secretary confessed that his agency needed almost $1.4 billion to execute what they had in mind, but added that this was an approximate estimation and that he could not yet reveal the final numbers at this time. Some people believe the government will spend too much, there will be delays, and it will probably take $5 billion or so to complete this project. Who knows? Look how much California spent on the court automated system that went nowhere.

Cost overruns are common in the public sector because no one is spending their own money – too many people in government do not respect tax payer’s money.

Like the majority of Mississippi based veterans, a Vietnam veteran named Richard Vineyard showed concern about the doctor to patient ratio, but was also grateful to the veterans office and said that it had saved his life on a couple of occasions and had helped him become clean. He said he would be a homeless drug addict if it wasn’t for veteran’s affairs.

VA Doctors’ Pay not Up to Par with Industry Standard

When questioned about why it is the case that the doctor to patient ratio was so poor, medical malpractice lawyers in Jackson. MS say that it is simply because veteran’s affairs physicians are paid substantially less that what they could receive if they worked at a private hospital.

However, one of the changes that the secretary says the veterans’ affairs office will introduce is that VA officers will now receive not only a 20% salary hike but also additional benefits such as not having to pay medical malpractice premiums. Will this help veterans though? That is the question.

Shirley Svorny Says Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Bills will not Serve the Purpose

According to a clarionledger.com report, House Bill 41 and Senate Bill 2412 are all ready and awaiting passage in their respective chambers this week. The proponents of the bill drafted it and are pushing for its passage because they believe that the bills will increase license portability and in turn, the practice of interstate telemedicine.

However, Svorny, a revered economics professor at California State University, Northridge and at the Cato Institute who has tons of experience in this particular field, is of the opinion that these bills are not going to help the cause at all. Moreover, this new rule adds another layer of bureaucracy and that is why Svorny opposes it.

Many Jackson, MS medical malpractice lawyers also agree with the views of Svorny. We will know by the end of the week as to whether or not the bills will pass.
