Husband Lands in Jail for Torturing Wife Following Divorce and Money Disputes

67 year old James McMahan has been arrested by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office after he tortured his wife of 25 years, Karen McMahan, over their impending divorce and money issues, as reported by wncn.com. The couple was having marital issues for a year before Karen filed for divorce this summer.

When you shoot a gun near your wife to intimidate her, not the smartest thing to do. Too bad she did not have access to a gun to properly defend herself.
Fort Lauderdale, FL divorce lawyers are appalled by James’s childlike response and violent behavior and the best legal help in South Florida comes from King Lindsey, P.A. (www.kinglindsey.com/).

On her divorce lawyer’s advice she transferred a joint CD worth around $230,000 to another account as a precaution. However, James came to know about the transfer. This led to a confrontation where he threatened his wife with a .38 special alleging that she was after his money.

Not smart James McMahan, not at all!

Karen McMahan reportedly told detectives that her husband hit her on the head with the gun and pushed her. He then pushed her into his truck and drove her to a lonely area in the Osceola National Forest. James then got her out following which Karen alleges to have heard a gunshot next to her but claimed that James told her he missed.

He then drove back home and threatened to hurt her daughter who lived in Hamilton County if she was informed of the events that unfolded. Karen also claimed that she had no way to contact anyone since James smashed her phone and disconnected the landline. She only managed to escape that next day on the pretext of meeting friends. She told her friend about the incident following which they caught up with her daughter and contacted law enforcement.

This is how marriages begin. Too bad some do not end up this way. Fort Lauderdale, FL divorce lawyers have seen it all and King Lindsey, P.A. knows how to defend her client no matter how muddy the waters get.
James was arrested from his home and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, kidnapping, using a weapon while committing a felony, and felony obstruction for prohibiting his wife from calling 911. The case is still under investigation.

Now James McMahan does not have to worry about any money issues, he is going to jail. Too bad Karen did not have a gun of her own. This is how ISIS and jihadists treat woman!

Simple Dissolution of Marriage

Meanwhile, Fort Lauderdale, FL divorce lawyers, and the best in the region is King Lindsey, P.A. since they know the legal system in these parts poetically and their brilliant results for their clients illustrates this, point out that the state permits divorce if the marriage is irretrievably broken or on the mental incapacity of one of the partners. In order to file for divorce in Florida, one spouse must be a resident of the state for at least six months.

A couple can request a simplified dissolution of marriage if they meet the residency requirements, agree that their marriage has irretrievably broken down, there are no children under 18, no requests for alimony, and agree on issues such as division of assets and debt, in addition to other criteria. According to Florida divorce attorneys, this is the quickest way a couple can be granted a divorce where they give up the right to a trial and appeal.

Regular Dissolution of Marriage

Fort Lauderdale, FL divorce lawyers reiterate that the other way to divorce is through a regular dissolution of marriage. Either spouse can file a 'Petition for Dissolution of Marriage' with the concerned court. If couples disagree on some issues the judge may suggest mediation.

Those who cannot agree on any issues must go to trial. This is a tedious process that can become expensive and where a judge will decide on every contested issue – not an enjoyable chapter of your life!
