Arkansas Woman Sentenced to 22 Years for Halloween Rampage

Twila Gail Watson, 29, of Hot Springs pleaded guilty to several felony charges stemming from her drunken rampage on the fateful Halloween night of 2013 when she injured multiple people. According to THV11, the accused has been sentenced to twenty two years of imprisonment in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

If you tear up the community while on a drunken rage, the community will normally strike back.
Authorities rushed to the spot around 7 pm on the day of the accident to Quail Ridge Drive and Covey Rise Trail, where locals had detained an intoxicated Twila after she had struck multiple cars and caused injuries to three pedestrians in the neighborhood.

Watson pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of second-degree battery, and one count of driving while intoxicated as many Benton, AR drunk driving lawyers paid attention to this case. The jury sentenced her to six years in the Department of Correction for each count of battery. She was also sentenced to 4 years for two counts of assault and 1 year in prison for the other two assault charges summing up to a 22 year sentence.

She was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and her driver’s license (DL) was suspended for 120 days, according to the Sentinel-Record. She is in jail for 22 years though. With good behavior, she will get out in 10. That is still much more than 120 days. So she will just fine to seek a DL when she leaves prison. The point is, what is the point of suspending her DL if she is going to jail for many years, much more than the length of her DL suspension? Also, what if she does not have the thousand dollars? She is in prison, will she be able to earn some money in prison? There are people wondering about this but she was caught and she will have to serve about half of that time if she falls into step in prison.

According to sources, Watson is said to have registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.20 percent at the time of her driving carnage, which is twice the legal limit. Her Benton, AR drunk driving attorney did all that they could do.

Lawsuit against Drunk Drivers

According to the CDC, in the US, 28 people die every day in motor-vehicle crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver. This means that there is one death every 53 minutes. The total cost of alcohol-related crashes annually is over $44 billion. In 2014, 9,967 people were killed in drunk driving accidents (DDA), accounting for 31% of all traffic-related deaths in the country.

Injuries that are caused by drunk driving make up a large part of civil suits in the US. While criminal charges can be brought against drunk drivers, they can also face civil liability if their victims sue them. If you or a loved one has been injured or killed in a DDA, a civil suit may be the best way for you to recover damages for your losses. Though if you are dead, of course one of your family members will have to carry out the lawsuit.

When it comes to a civil case based on drunk driving, the victim or in case of a fatality, the next of kin of the victim can file a personal injury lawsuit to recover any damages. A civil suit may be the only recourse available to help you recover:
  • Medical treatment costs
  • Lost wages
  • Damaged property
  • Pain and suffering
  • Other economic damages
