When you are issued with a non-immigrant
visa to enter the United States, then you may do so but you will still be
subjected to inspection at the port of entry say immigration lawyers.
Non-immigrant visas are visas such as a B-1
visa issued to visitors, F-1 visa issued to students, and H-1B visas
which are issued to workers.
The inspection will be conducted by a US
customs and border protection (CBP) officer. Most people fly into the United
States and for them the inspection will be conducted at the first American
airport in which they land unless the plane lands on the highway like it did in
Day 5 of 24 and they are able to escape like Jack Bauer did but this is highly
unlikely. Moreover, this is true even if the first airport you land in isn’t
your destination and you have another flight/s to catch to get to your final
destination.
In some cases, however, the inspection
may be conducted even before you embark on the journey. This is called a
preflight inspection where US customs and border protection officers will
inspect you at the airport of departure. This is only applicable to a select
few places around the globe. In most cases the inspection generally happens when
you land for the first time on American soil.
The
United States Entry Fee
Anyone entering the United States on a
non-immigrant visa will need to pay a US entry fee when they land for the first
time in the country. The only time a
person is exempted from this fee is if their departure point was from somewhere
in Canada, Mexico, any territory in possession of the United States, or any
island adjacent to the United States.
Primary
Inspection
The initial inspection conducted by the
US customs and border protection officer when you land at the first airport in
the United States is known as the primary inspection. Generally, there is
nothing to fear or be apprehensive about since it is just a routine security
procedure that needs to be followed in the interest of public safety, which is
conducted to ensure that no one with a criminal
record easily enters the country unlike how Ivan Korshunov (Gary
Oldman) was able to manipulate the system and get on Air Force One acting as if
he was a member of the media. And his and his team’s intentions were certainly
not altruistic.
Most people will have little or no
difficulty in getting through with the primary inspection without any
difficulty and immigration attorneys know this to be true. For the most part,
the inspection is nothing but a series of questions designed to assess your
eligibility to enter the United States under the visa issued to you.
In the unlikely event that the officer
exercises his/her right to remove you, it is always better to voluntarily
withdraw your request for admission. This is because, if removed say
immigration lawyers, this will further disqualify you from entering the United
States for several years in the future. Of course if you are Bane in The Dark
Knight Rises you do not care if you ever return to America since your noble
goal is to destroy Gotham in a single nuclear blast.
Secondary
Inspection
In case the first officer is unable to
determine whether to allow you admission into the country or not, he or she
will refer you to a secondary inspection. In the secondary inspection, you will
be scrutinized closely by a supervisor.
If you are entering the US with a
non-immigrant visa and need to know what to do and what not to do in order to
get through your inspection without any hassle, you can meet with an
immigration lawyer who will prep you for these questions immaculately. A legal
representative can help on a variety of issues be it family or work based
immigration, a non-immigrant visa, or any other immigration related matters. They
earn their keep! Their advice is golden.
