Raping and killing Americans for one! Blowing
up marathons and shooting up office parties are not too impressive either!
An American green card is a highly
sought after document and it comes with a plethora of advantages that could improve
the quality of the holder’s life tremendously. A green card is basically
permanent residency where the holder of the green card can lawfully live in the
United States indefinitely and
can also work here.
A green card is different from a work
permit, say immigration lawyers. A green card is an upgrade even from holding a
work permit. A work permit essentially allows you to legally work in the United
States for the period of its validity but it is not permanent residency. There
are of course many requirement criteria that you need to satisfy in order to be
eligible for applying for a green card. Today, we will look at some of the
things that can jeopardize your green card application.
Not meeting basic green card eligibility
It is vital that you clearly understand
what the minimum requirements are before going ahead and filing an application
for the issue of a green card. If you do not meet certain standards, then it is
better to wait until you have achieved these requirements because once a green
card application is duly denied or rejected then it will come up even the next
time you apply for a green card even if you now meet all requirements. There
are many ways in which people are issued green cards and all these ways are
very accurately defined.
One popular way is to receive your green
card courtesy of an immediate relative who happens to be a green card holder.
Another category where a lot of green cards are issued are for entrepreneurs
who have the capacity to invest over at least half a million dollars in an
American business that will create jobs and enhance the economy overall. And
America certainly needs more jobs!
America would have more jobs but the
corporate tax is 35% - the highest in the world. No wonder trillions of
American dollars are sitting overseas. This high tax does not persuade too many
wealthy foreigners into investing in America as well and many immigration
lawyers know all about this.
These are only two examples and there
are many other ways in which you may acquire your green card. You just need to
know which category you fall under and ensure that you meet all the stipulated
requirements for that category in order to successfully apply for your green
card.
If you are unsure of this, then the best
thing would be to consult with an immigration attorney prior to going ahead
with your filing.
You do not need to file though if you
are an Internet hacker and terrorist. That goes for Sadak (Yorick van
Wageningen) in the movie Blackhat. Just because you kill people in some secret
way from some faraway place, you are still a murderer. You certainly do not
need to be an American citizen, you need to be dead or on death row.
Inadmissibility for a green card
There are some things that may put one
in the black book and deem them ineligible for a green card which has been
already mentioned a couple of times. But let’s focus on this more specifically,
being charged or convicted for certain crimes
will make you inadmissible and so will be the case if you are diagnosed with
certain communicable diseases. Another thing that can classify you as being
inadmissible is if you were previously deported from America for any type of
reason.
Even if you are inadmissible, there are
ways in which you can acquire a waiver and still receive your green card
anyway unless your name is Sadak or you are a terrorist! If you want to know
how you can go about achieving this then it would be best to consult an
immigration lawyer right away. This is definitely most likely out of your
league – this is why immigration lawyers were created. The law is complex, this
is why society made lawyers.
