The car accident caused Johnson to become entrapped in her vehicle. She was extricated from the wreck by responding firefighters and rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she breathed her last breath on May 14th.

Flores has been shown no mercy from prosecutors who have filed several felony counts of aggravated DUI resulting in death, and other charges that entail that he was not only drunk, but also under the influence of other psychoactive drugs at the time of the car accident. The legal pro representing Malia Johnson’s estate said that the family was devastated by her death and that she was a caring, compassionate, wife, mother, and physician.
