Frustrated about Divorce, Texas Mom Shoots Daughters before Being Shot by Police

Two Texas daughters recently had to pay a heavy price after their mother Christy Sheats reportedly shot them following a rift with her husband. Sugar Land, TX divorce lawyers are in shock after hearing this – so is everyone else.

As reported by yahoo.com, her husband was under the impression Christy wanted to discuss his decision to file for divorce when she called for a family meeting on his 45th birthday. However, she did the unthinkable and opened fire on the two girls, 17 year old Madison and 22 year old Taylor, with a .38-caliber handgun.

According to Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehlis, Jason helped them reconstruct the events leading up to the fatal shooting. He claims that she was on medications for depression and anxiety and was also suicidal – no wonder the father wanted a divorce. Jason also alleged that their marriage was on the rocks for the past four years following three suicide attempts and treatment at private mental health facilities.

Sugar Land, TX divorce lawyers know that suicidal people, with unstable and irrational thoughts, should not have access to a weapon.
Jason had been in contact via text messages with Christy on that fateful day although he was out part of the day with one of his daughters. When they returned home he went into the backyard and informed Christy of his decision to file for divorce.

While Jason walked to another part of their home, Christy announced her decision to call a family meeting, which he presumed would be about breaking the news of their divorce to their two daughters. As they sat down in the living room, Christy pulled out the handgun and pointed it at Jason but then turned the gun on the two girls. Jason managed to escape onto the street but Madison collapsed and died.

Christy followed the other daughter Taylor onto the street, fired at her once more and then went back into the home to reload and came back to shoot her once more. Although Taylor was rushed to hospital she succumbed to her injuries later.

The police who responded to 911 calls had to finally shoot Christy when she refused to give up her weapon. When asked by investigators about why she did not shoot him but turned on the girls first, Jason claimed that his wife probably wanted him to suffer since she was aware how much he loved the girls.

The devil was too strong for her according to many. She could not fight off her demons. It is too bad she was too weak to do so.

They say hindsight is 20/20 so this could mean that it is a shame that Jason had not already used this website Divorce.USAttorneys.com to find divorce legal help a year ago or so to get away from his dangerous wife. This is a very sad situation.

Why would a woman like this have access to a loaded weapon?

Texas Divorce Basics

Meanwhile, Sugar Land, TX divorce lawyers explain that terminating a marriage needn’t be an ugly, disputed affair. Couples who wish to divorce in the state must be a resident of the state for at least six months prior to filing a petition in the respective county where at least one of them has resided for not less than 90 days.

Divorce attorneys in Texas also point out that the state recognizes divorces based on no-fault and fault grounds. A couple can seek a no-fault divorce citing an irretrievable breakdown of their marriage or irreconcilable differences.

On the other hand, the filing spouse will have to provide proof in a fault-based divorce. Some of the grounds accepted by Texas divorce courts include adultery, abandonment, domestic violence, and felony imprisonment, to name a few. Shooting your children though is beyond comprehension.

If you need help with issues such as child support, alimony, or any other matter that could be hampering your divorce, make sure to reach out to a fabulous Texas divorce lawyer.
