According to expert truck accident
lawyers, the US government (specifically the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
has hatched a proposal which if passed will essentially put further speed
limitations on large commercial trucks, tractor trailers, and buses.
Truck accident lawyers know that trucks can cause some serious mayhem. |
How much this will increase the cost of
goods no one really knows? The longer it takes to get products on the shelf the
higher the price will be because more time was wasted. On top of this, will the
ripeness of food be at risk since it will take longer for food to reach
supermarket shelves as well.
Technically, the vehicles affected by
this will be any bus or truck which weighs in at or over 26,000 pounds. The new
proposal aims to put an overall upper limit irrespective of road speed limits
for such vehicles at 68 miles per hour, as reported by engadget.com. This could also have an
influence on truck accident insurance claims.
This is just another example of the over
reach of the federal government. Is this new law going to force truck drivers
to drive longer to make up for the lost time putting people on the road at
risk?
Trucking Laws are different from Normal
Traffic Laws
Truck accident attorneys who are used to
dealing with, investigating, and fighting for truck accident victims on the
road could be happy with this new law. But legal professional depend on
accidents to make a living and as just stated, if this new law compels truck
drivers to drive for longer periods of time, how much safer are we? Trucks are
large heavy vehicles which are capable of attaining great speeds and hence can
cause accidents which are much more catastrophic in nature when compared to car
accidents.
Why 68 then? How about 55? Some states
like California have a 55 mph limit for anything with a trailer. Arizona allows
trucks to drive up to 75 saving people time and helping to keep the food fresh.
Trucks and trucking companies are
already subjected to a separate set of laws and are not governed by the states
normal traffic laws since trucking requires higher safety standards and so on.
Not only are they subjected to a
separate set of state specific trucking laws, but are also governed by federal
trucking laws which are enforced by the FMSCA (Federal Motor Safety Carrier
Administration) which truck accident attorneys know all about and be found
right here at Truck-Accident.USAttorneys.
Many laws are unnecessary but
USAttorneys.com is certainly not. A country that makes it easier for their
citizens to find legal help is a healthier and happier country. On top of this,
the free enterprise system allowed for a website of this stature to be created
which is a benefit for all.
Safety and maybe even a fuel economy
boost?
Some people like this law since it
supposedly keep people safer and could help trucks save money on fuel. But will
our food be as fresh? Will drivers driver for another hour to make up for the
lost time? No matter what, time is money and no law can ever change that and truck
accident lawyers have to agree to that.
We all know Obamacare is failing as it
was expected to do by anyone who is honest with themselves and this is a national
law. America is a big country, with different industries, people, and weather
systems. This is not a small country like South Korea and this is not Cuba
where the central government controls everything, are national laws even
American?
If the proposals are accepted and
accordingly legislation is passed, it will essentially result in technological
devices being fitted on all large commercial rigs weighing over 26,000 pounds
and these devices will not allow the
trucks to go over 68 miles per hour. In this way, the government, legislators
and law enforcement authorities need not worry about how they will regulate and
enforce the new speed limit and ensure truckers are actually abiding by these
limits.
Truck
drivers will lose money since they will not be able to drive as many miles
in a day as they could have. They will also drive faster on non-highways to
make up for the lost time putting more people at risk. Some trucking companies
actually like this new law but the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers
Association (OOIDA) is not too keen on this notion at all.
10 years from now there may not be any
truck driving jobs at all though with autonomous technology taking their place
but that is another topic.
