Lafayette Jury Finds Man Guilty of Second Degree Murder

27 year old Miles Guidry had been indicted by a grand jury for the murder of his girlfriend, 26 year old Claire Christine Walley, last November. As reported by klfy.com, he was found guilty of second degree murder. Her body was discovered last November at her residence in the 400 block of Lagneaux Road in Duson. Guidry fled after the murder following which an arrest warrant was issued.

 

Investigations revealed that Guidry was previously arrested for a second DUI and to other offenses in April last year. The charges included aggravated flight, DUI second offense, and illegal possession and discharge of a firearm. Reports indicate that when he was pulled over he fired a shot from a handgun in the air and then sped away in his truck, which he then crashed into the Lafayette Habitat for Humanity office on Johnston Street. Lafayette Police later confiscated a .357 caliber pistol although he fled from the scene of the accident.

According to Lafayette, LA DUI lawyers, the penalties for a 2^nd DUI offense include jail time between 5 days and 1 year, fines of up to $1,000 and suspension of the driver's license up to 2 years. There are additional charges for fleeing the scene and if convicted, the driver will have to install an ignition interlock device on his or her vehicle.

Guidry, the father of Walley’s child, was later arrested in Glendale, Colorado, where police found him asleep in his car. He was taken to the Arapahoe County Detention Center and then later transported to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. His bail was set at half a million dollars. Man with 13 DUIs to His Name gets Away from Denham Springs Police Department

As reported by theadvocate.com, there seems to be a major slip up in Louisiana’s criminal justice system which allowed a man with 13 DUIs to go loose once again. Jeffery Blough’s history includes DUI arrests, 6 DUI convictions, and he was currently under parole supervision. Yet, he was allowed to walk free by the Denham Springs Police Department which ended in his second DUI crash this month in which two people were hospitalized and treated for broken bones and facial injuries.

Some people believe someone like Blough should not be allowed to live. How come the death penalty cannot be given to someone like Blough who has no regard for other peoples’ lives? What is his car insurance payments?
