A woman aged 79 was killed recently by
an alleged drunk driver in Charlotte, according to nydailynews.com. The woman
was in the United States from Columbia on vacation and was visiting loved ones.
Are DUI laws in Charlotte stringent enough? We ask because the suspected drunk
driver in this case already had an extensive history of drunk driving in the
past.
The deceased has been identified by
authorities as Cecelia Buitrago de Gonzalez and Charlotte, NC DUI lawyers are
not impressed with the perpetrator of this atrocious crime right about now. She
was travelling in a car with three other occupants when suspect Kelly Ann
Conkin crossed over a median and ploughed right into oncoming traffic in the
early hours of the morning.
Kelly Ann Conkin is not exactly the
communities favorite person right about now.
Suspect
had Prior DUI Convictions and was Still on the Roads
State prosecutors have not held back
when it comes to charging Kelly Conkin. She has been charged with death by motor vehicle and DWI
among others and if convicted she will finally be put away for a long time, which
is something some people believe should have happened a long time ago provided
that she has had prior DUI convictions.
Kelly Ann Conkin has chosen to ignore
her high school teachers who told her not to drink and drive. Well now she is
basically someone that society does not want to see anymore.
Conkin was convicted of DWI in North
Carolina in 2014, and another DWI conviction the same year in South Carolina
too. The previous convictions can only add up to a stiffer sentence say Charlotte,

The other occupants in Gonzalez’s car
were all injured and hospitalized for treatment. An 11-year old suffered minor
injuries, but two others were seriously injured and remain under treatment in
medical facilities. They were all returning from a family trip to Hilton Head.
Conkin should have been a mocha a drinker, not an alcoholic. It is very sad what happened. |
Cecelia was remembered by her surviving
loved ones as a saint who worked with abused teenage girls in some of the most
dangerous neighborhoods in Bogota, Colombia. They confirmed that Cecelia's body
will be cremated and the remains returned to Colombia. They said they were
praying for the drunk driver, praying that she would never do this to anyone
else because that is exactly what Cecelia would have done.
A winner was killed by the opposite type
person it seems.
Conkin, who was booked into the
Mecklenburg County jail was later released on bail which was set at $129,000.
North Carolina DUI attorneys point out that her driving privileges have
remained intact since her two previous drunk driving convictions occurred in
differing states.
