Truck accident investigators who are
probing a deadly accident which occurred on Highway 101 believe that debris
from a Caltrans truck may have caused the auto accident in which an elderly
driver was killed, as reported by CBS. San Francisco, CA truck accident
lawyers are perplexed by this case.
The debris in question was a metal part
which broke through the window of the car of the deceased victim. Preliminary
California Highway Patrol investigations revealed that the metal part which
slammed through the window of the car and caused the death of the elderly driver
may have come from a Caltrans water truck.
The truck was said to have been driving
between job sites when the auto accident occurred. Caltrans is cooperating with
law enforcement authorities and the California Highway Patrol as they draw
closer to the end of their investigation.
The deceased victim was identified by
San Mateo County's coroner's office as Louis Schaefer from Mountain View.
Schaefer died after the metal part which broke through his car window ended up
striking his neck with deadly force. The metal part was a large screw-on nozzle
cap and it was supposed to be secured at the back of the Caltrans truck. The
nozzle supposedly came off the truck, flew across several lanes of traffic, and
ploughed through the window and into Scaefer's neck in a totally freak
accident.
Investigators say that such metal caps
are generally secured by a metal chain and they are not sure how it could have
come loose in this case.
Schaefer, once struck by the metal cap,
lost control of his car, and struck the median. No other vehicles or motorists
were damaged or injured in the incident. San Francisco, CA truck accident
lawyers point out that any video footage and the investigation report will help
establish liability, and in wrongful death lawsuit as well, if any.
Authorities
identify women who died in Highway 1 accident
Sfbay.ca reports that two women who
passed away in a fatal Highway 1 accident have been identified by the San Mateo
Coroner's office as 22 year old Audrey Jimenez and 22 year old Madeline
Halluin. Jimenez was a resident of San Jose and Halluin was from Campbell,
according to police reports.
The accident occurred in the early and
dark hours of the morning on Highway 1 at Pigeon Point in San Mateo County. The
deceased were both occupants of a Mazda CX 5 and they tried to pull into the
highway from Pigeon Point and inadvertently ended up right in the path of a
Dodge pickup truck that was travelling in a southerly direction. The police
report will play a vital role in any accident insurance claim say California truck
accident attorneys.
None of the occupants of the Dodge
suffered any injuries confirm California Highway Patrol officers.
It looks like it was not the Dodge’s
fault. How do you drive into another car like this is very strange.
Time to pick up the phone
Unlike other
motor and traffic accidents, truck accident cases are not governed by regular
state traffic laws. Instead, there is a whole set of complex state trucking
laws in addition to federal trucking laws. In order to stand a chance of
winning a truck accident case, you will most certainly require the expertise of
a California truck accident lawyer who is well versed with both sets of
trucking laws.
