Alleged Drunk Driver could be Slapped with Manslaughter Charges

The relatives of 30 year old Michael Jones of Petersburg, VA who lost his life to a suspected drunk driver are in mourning and are demanding justice. Jones’ body was not found for several days after the accident. He was a passenger in the vehicle which was supposedly being operated while under the influence, as reported by legalexaminer.com.

Alexandria, VA accident lawyers know that you should not drive with a drunk driver and anyone who lies to the police for something like this should be punished severely
The defendant, Chiquita Pettaway, faces manslaughter charges in connection with the case and especially the fact that had she adopted full disclosure after the accident, Jones could have been saved and would still be alive today. She was thrown from the vehicle too but not really injured so she was not wearing a seat belt either. Not smart!

As per the testimonies of arresting law enforcement officers, Pettaway was clearly asked if anyone else was in the car with her and she said “NO” at least three times. Furthermore, the very next day, Jones’ family reported Jones as a missing person and law enforcement officers asked Pettaway yet again if she was alone in the crash and she still maintained that she was the sole occupant of the car.

The accident site was searched and Jones’ body was found about 40 yards away from the actual scene of the crash itself. Pettaway already faces charges of DUI and for refusing a breathalyzer test, but depending on future findings, Virginia DUI attorneys are of the opinion that she could face an involuntary manslaughter charge sheet as well.

So Michael Jones was hanging out with someone of Chiquita Pettaway’s character? This was his girlfriend! Alexandria, VA accident lawyers have no idea how anyone could be this callous. So she though the body would not be found?

Fatal accident in Roanoke – was alcohol a factor?

Eye witnesses have testified that they saw a car run over a man and then continue on its way towards Hershberger Road. As reported by wdbj7.com, the accident occurred in the 2800 block of Williamson Road. 35 year old David Mitchell has been identified as the victim while Marvin Pannell, also 35, has been charged with driving under the influence and manslaughter, and is currently in custody at Roanoke City Jail.

Meanwhile, if you have been arrested for a DUI, it would be prudent to seek help from a Virginia DUI lawyer to get started working on a solid and reasonable defense.
