A bicyclist was critically injured and

The truck which collided with Amanda was
a Kenworth dump truck belonging to Lautenbach Industries of Mount Vernon. The
vehicle was headed in a southerly direction. Lynden resident, 26 year old Emily
Shanahan, who was in a Honda Accord said she just had time to brake and avoid
running over Amanda’s body.
In a statement, she claimed that the
bicyclist was riding zigzag down the highway and swerved about 5 to 10 feet either
side of the road before she was struck by the truck and came to rest right in
front of the witnesses car where she lay with her eyes open and still
breathing.
The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet
and paramedics say she suffered severe head injuries and multiple broken bones.
She was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the dump truck was
identified as 33 year old David A. Bigbie who he did not suffer any injuries.
