An annual presentation provided by the
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments on Wednesday put things into perspective
with regards to trends in statistics of drunk driving arrests, drunk driving
accidents, drunk driving deaths, and drunk driving casualties.
As per Washington, DC drunk driving
accident lawyers, the recent deaths of three teenagers from Montgomery County
were late additions to the statistics.
According to The Washington Times, Kurk Erickson, the
president of the Washington Regional Alcohol
Program (WRAP), in a statement about the car accident in Montgomery said that
three of the youngest citizens were lost in what was almost a textbook
unfortunate case. The fatal Montgomery auto accident according to investigators
involved a pickup truck that supposedly went off road and into a tree in the
25300 block of Burnt Hill Road.
The driver of the truck
has been identified as 17 year old Jacob Tyle Dennis and his two passengers
were also identified as 18 year old Andrew Shifflett of Laytonsville and Cary
Maurice Green, a 17 year old from Clarksburg who survived the initial impact,
but later succumbed to her injuries in a hospital.
As per a new report
released by WRAP, alcohol related auto accidents and injuries have increased by
a staggering 5.63% in Metropolitan Washington area. However, the data cannot be
interpreted to mean that there is an increase in impaired driving itself. What
it essentially means is that there is an increase in the number of injuries or car
deaths caused due to drunken driving.
Why you need a drunk
driving auto accident lawyer
After a drunk driving
accident ensues, the suspect is charged and tried in court. If the suspect is
found guilty of driving under the influence
of drugs or alcohol, he or she will
have to face the legal consequences depending on the severity of the crime.
It is a tragedy when a young person has the rest of their life canceled because of a careless car driving mistake. |
This is the purpose of
the criminal lawsuit. However, the criminal lawsuit does not serve to
compensate the victim of the drunk driving accident. Obviously, the victim
would have incurred some economic and non-economic damages. The only way for
the victim to claim compensation for the car accident is by filing a civil or personal injury lawsuit,
according to Washington, DC drunk driving accident attorneys.
A civil lawsuit to acquire
the appropriate financial damages
If you are a victim of a DUI car
accident you have the right to claim
compensation for your pain and suffering. However, to prove liability is not
easy since the result of the civil lawsuit is not dependent on the criminal
lawsuit.
Therefore, you will require
the help of a Washington, DC drunk driving accident lawyer. A legal pro will
not only help you file the lawsuit, but will also prove to be invaluable when
it comes to collecting evidence, and tactfully proving the claims within the
lawsuit beyond a doubt using the appropriate supporting evidence so you can
earn the compensation that you deserve.
