Criminal Charges Brought Against Trucker in Accident that Killed Georgia Southern Nursing Students

The driver of a tractor trailer who was charged in an auto accident which claimed the lives of five Georgia Southern Nursing students and left two other students injured has now been convicted of his charges courtesy of a unanimous decision made by A Bryan County Grand jury midweek last week.

As reported by ajc.com, the indicted driver is 56 year old John Wayne Johnson from Shreveport, Louisiana. He was indicted on nine counts and these include five counts of first degree vehicular homicide, serious injury by vehicle, and reckless driving. The trucking company, Total Trucking, was also indicted on five counts of first degree vehicular manslaughter. The accident occurred on April 22^nd, 2015. Local law enforcement authorities have released one of the names of the two deceased victims of a fatal car accident that occurred on Clay Road earlier last week. 27 year old Katrina E. Morris from Powder Springs was the car driver that died along with a man and four children who sustained auto injuries after the 1998 Honda Passport she was driving went out of control, according to Fox News. As she was approaching Flint Road intersection near Mableton, the car derailed from the road and collided head on into a tree.

The identity of her male passenger who was seated in the front passenger seat is yet to be confirmed.

The 4 minors in the backseat all sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite by responding emergency medical technicians.
