In a rare move, Frank Straub, a former
Spokane police chief sued the city officials claiming that his forced
resignation was a clear violation of his civil rights. Three city officials:
Spokane City Administrator Theresa Sanders, Mayor David Condon, and Nancy
Isserlis who is the city attorney were named in the lawsuit, as reported by The Bellingham Herald.
The lawsuit claims that the mayor’s
administration wrongly accused Straub of deeds without properly investigating
the matter, thereby causing indelible harm. According to the ex-police chief,
his reputation has suffered immense damage and hampered his chance of finding
viable employment in the future.
Straub was incidentally forced to quit
his post as police chief following allegations of sexual harassment made by a
former department spokeswoman. Some of his top administrators also did not take
kindly to his frequent outbursts – that is not appealing for sure. Sexual
harassment lawyers, to avoid frivolous lawsuits, they make sure to do their
best to evaluate and investigate every case closely so they do not damage their
own cause.
Straub – screaming at people will not
make any employer happy. But perhaps this was a frivolous case.

Uber Driver Sexual Harassed by Passenger
In another incident a Seattle,
Washington Uber female driver claimed that a passenger tried to assault her
sexually but luckily the individual passed out before he could harm her. Maggie
Young revealed her predicament in an interview on local station Kiro.
According to Young, the drunken
passenger repeatedly tried to molest her. However, he ignored her requests to
put on the seat belt and instead started verbally abusing her. ABC13 reports that Young claimed that the
male passenger told her that he would love to have sex with her and even lunged
at her from the back seat. She told Kiro that since she was driving the vehicle
she was unable to resist him. Thankfully he passed out before he could inflict
injuries. She then drove to a public spot and called for help.
Female Uber drivers should be careful
about picking up some people.
The passenger, Kevin Mitchell (not the
former bad boy baseball player), was later arrested later by Seattle police but
was unavailable for comment. Ms. Young explained that Uber drivers tend to face
harassment on a regular basis and they are often afraid to react fearing an
adverse effect on their employment. She needs a sexual harassment lawyer it
seems and perhaps so do other female drivers of Uber. Well and moreover, it
does not help the employment situation is bleak – certainly in liberal run
cities like Seattle.
Uber drivers may want to put cameras in
their car. That is what they do in Russia because the police are corrupt there. Uber drivers may want to have a firearm on their person as well when working.
Reaction from Uber
Uber says that it is committed to
protecting its drivers and passengers. They claim to have investigated the
matter and Mitchell has been banned from availing of their services. The car
service said in their statement that they have contacted Maggie to gather
information on that fateful trip and are willing to provide the police any
assistance in the investigation.
Ride a bike now Mitchell!
Evan’s Fruits Settles Sexual Harassment
Lawsuit
According to a legalnewsline.com report, the US Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission recently announced that Evans Fruit, one of
the largest apple producers in the country agreed to pay $272,000 to 20 female
employees. The employees who were immigrant
farm workers alleged they were sexually harassed over several years.
The settlement stems from a sexual
harassment lawsuit filed by the EEOC against Evans Fruit in June 2010.
Following a prolonged legal battle and an initial setback, the EEOC filed an
appeal, following which the company agreed to settle and resolve all claims,
according to sexual harassment lawyers. This is considered as a landmark
victory for the EEOC who were able to protect immigrants from a distressful
employment situation. But at least they have a job! It is not all bad right?
What does this line of work pay in their
original countries?
Sexual harassment lawyers proclaim
sexual harassment complaints are still pretty rampant in workplaces. Often
times the employers do not investigate complaints of sexual
harassment properly especially when a senior official is involved.
This is why it is important for victims to consult with a sexual harassment
lawyer to protect their rights, self-esteem, and humanity from these types of
people.
