The Florida Highway Patrol was the first to reach the car accident site. They declared 32 year old William Frederick from Punta Gorda dead on the scene.

Investigators said that that the road was wet from recent rainfall in the area. They believe that Frederick drove onto a patch of standing water which had collected which caused the car to hydroplane, following which the victim lost control of the wheel and helplessly skidded into a waste management truck.

The truck was travelling in a southerly direction and was operated by 59 year old Paulina Ortega who is a resident of Lehigh Acres in Florida, as per police reports. The passenger in the truck has been identified as 45 year Carlos Galvez. Both suffered minor injuries and were able to walk away from the car accident.
