Angelina Jolie Files Divorce Papers in Los Angeles Court

It is unfortunately curtains down for brand ‘brangelina’. As reported by CNN, Hollywood’s most celebrated couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have called it quits.

41 year old Jolie filed for divorce in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles and has sought physical custody of their six children (perhaps if she had her way, it would be around 20). Divorce papers cite irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce, which divorce lawyers point out is permitted under the state’s divorce laws.

For the most part, the couple’s children have been kept away from the spotlight. While speculation was rife that a fierce child custody battle would ensue should the couple break up, reportedly both Jolie and Pitt are keen on an amicable separation. Jolie has requested the court to grant Pitt visitation rights and that she retain any personal effects, jewelry, and income and other assets after their separation date, which is according to records, September 15^th.

Having a child yourself is one thing, adopting one child after another is something else.

Brad does not want to raise so many children that really are not his own. He has no problem with that agreement! Brad has no problem making marvelous movies either while Jolie focuses on vanity projects.

In a statement to CNN, Pitt reaffirmed that the wellbeing of the children was a priority. He also urged the media to respect their privacy especially during this challenging phase. Jolie’s divorce attorney too shared the same sentiments in a statement to the media.

The couple has been together for over a decade since Pitt and Aniston split in 2005 as already insinuated since she wanted to spend her time in the big mess they call LA and Pitt wanted calm and peace in the Midwest. Their daughter Shiloh was born in May 2006 while two twins Vivienne and Knox followed in July 2008. They also have 3 adopted children from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Vietnam.

Pitt and Jolie married in 2014 soon after the actress underwent a preventive double mastectomy in 2013. Apart from acting, the couple has also been actively involved in humanitarian work while Jolie is also a UN special envoy for refugee issues. Too bad the Democrats who run America did not take ISIS serious which caused this crisis in the first place. If McCain won in 2008, ISIS would have never grown because he would have kept troops in Iraq like the Pentagon advised President Obama to do and this massive chaotic situation would have never occurred in the first place.

Speculation rife about cause of split

A TMZ report suggests that substance abuse, anger, and a conflict of the upbringing of the kids are what triggered the divorce. Not even divorce lawyers really know though.

Jolie is supposed to have been disturbed by 52 year old Pitt’s use of marijuana and alcohol, and what she perceived to be an anger issue, which she felt was dangerous for the kids. Forbes estimates that the couple is worth around $117.5 million since their wedding in 2014.

Divorce lawyers point out that in many celebrity high-profile divorces the terms for any split are sorted out prior to filing. However, Jolie’s court papers are limited to custody, which is why it remains unclear if there would be any dispute on other matters. Not even divorce lawyers know the answer to this.

While social media has celebrities like Kanye and Kim in the spotlight 24 hours of the day, Jolie and Pitt led a more or less private life, carefully managing their social media footprint. Both are accomplished actors but went beyond into directing and producing, apart from championing numerous social causes across the globe. But Brad stayed more on point, Jolie has been lost, not really entertaining anyone anymore.   

The actual cause for the divorce is still open for debate with tabloids speculating just about everything from Pitt’s parenting style, to his use of weed, anger, and even  hanging out with Russian hookers. However, that is mere speculation and theories. Let’s respect the couple’s plea for privacy.
