A New York woman has been arrested and
charged for faking an injury and having to use a cane to assist her in walking
so that she could collect workers compensation insurance. New York
State Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott recently announced that the woman
was being charged with falsifying records.
According to workerscompensation.com, the woman received
as much as $27,000 in workers compensation payments so far by her devious
means.
The woman has been identified in court
documents as 51 year old Christine Weipert from Genesee Street in Mount Marris.
She was arraigned midweek for her crimes and faces grand larceny in the third
degree, falsifying business records, and fraudulent practices, which is common
in such cases according to New York workers compensation lawyers.
The woman worked at Wayne Finger Lakes
BOCES as a computer service assistant when she injured her knee trying to
unpack a printer back in August 2013. Ever since then, Weipert has been receiving
workers compensation payments by lying to medical examiners that she was unable
to work, sit, or even stand for a stretch of time.

In determining whether or not the woman
was being dishonest, the investigation included a review of her social media
activity where she seemed to be able to carry out other physical activities
just fine and that she would only use a cane to walk when she had a medical
exam coming up or a hearing in front of the state’s workers compensation board.

New

A Far Rockaway restaurant owner has been
taken into custody by the New York State Police of suspected insurance and
workers compensation fraud. Supposedly, the owner lied about being disabled and
frivolously received over $69,000 in workers compensation payments, as reported
by workerscompensation.com.
The suspect has been identified as 45
year old Michelle Buggs from Inwood. Currently, she has been released under her
own recognizance and is scheduled to return to court for a trial on the 26th
of August. If convicted of all charges, Buggs could be looking at as many as 15
years in prison according to New York workers
