Speeding Incident on I-84 leads to DUI Arrest

On Wednesday morning just after midnight police detected a grey 2004 Saab 9 speeding and weaving in and out of lanes on I-84. The patrolling officer made an attempt to stop the vehicle but the driver accelerated to over 85 mph and sped away. Not smart!

The same vehicle was spotted on Exit 46 and when the officer pursued the car the vehicle tried to flee and almost caused an accident on Oak Street, according to a report by NBC.

Elias Guzman of East Hartford was later slapped with 12 different charges which include driving under the influence, speeding, ignoring a signal by police, reckless handling of the vehicle and failure to maintain the proper lane. A passenger Ivelisse Alvarado Perez, 29, was charged with interfering with law enforcement officers. Lock him up to!

Internal Affairs Reviewing a Video in which Officers are Found Discussing the Charges they must Levy on a Man

Recently a video has surfaced showing several troopers standing near a DUI enforcement checkpoint and discussing the charges that can be brought against a man who was protesting against the DUI checkpoint that was set up near Park Road in West Hartford. The internal affairs department is conducting a review of the video, as reported by courant.com. So?

27 year old Micheal Picard was protesting peacefully with a placard which read Cop’s Ahead. Keep Calm and Remain Silent’ on I-84 around 7 pm. There was a police checkpoint close by and this is why he claims to have chosen the spot to voice his protest. Picard said that he was also carrying a gun in his holster which was visible, for which he did have a permit. He must have a lot time on his hands.

Picard later posted some videos to his YouTube page showing his encounter with the state police. In those videos the troopers are trying to figure out the charges that they must bring against Picard and legal implications of Picard’s actions. One of the trooper’s was even heard saying ‘we gotta cover our asses’. Picard was later able to identify 3 troopers. So?

He was charged with reckless use of the highway and causing public disturbance. He was detained for 40 minutes although he was never handcuffed but a trooper stood beside him all the while. They checked the permit for his gun and camera and returned both after issuing a citation. That is not right though since he was not breaking the law.

Picard said that he was not provoking the law enforcement as was indicated by Andrew Mathews President of the State Troopers Union. He is simply a powerful advocate of freedom and will continue to protest passionately.
