A meat processing company operating out of
Delphi in Indiana has denied claims made in a federal lawsuit brought against
it that it hired illegal, undocumented workers in order to save money when it
comes to salaries. According to the lawsuit, the managers of the company
habitually hired undocumented immigrants. However, the company denied all
allegations and is going to fight the case say immigration lawyers.
Hey, with this high taxes and
regulations that are burdensome on business – hiring illegal immigrants is
sometimes about basic survival and immigration lawyers see this all the time.
Company
Denies Allegations of Hiring Illegal Immigrants
As reported by indystar.com, the company released a
statement earlier this week where they claimed that their forms and
documentation had already been scrutinized by federal immigration officers and
that their I-9 forms included the verification of a person being authorized to
work in the United States. They said that any new hire would certainly go
through this process. When this review was done of the company back in 2014,
says the company, the government officials in fact thanked the company and had
declared that there was no basis for any further investigation.
Specifically, two employees that work at
the Human Resources Department at Indiana Packers Corp are facing federal level
charges for supposedly hiring illegal, undocumented immigrants even though
there was sufficient and obvious evidence that the immigrants were using fake
social security numbers and identification cards.
Furthermore, the lawsuit also alleges
that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened at the company,
apparently, it is a practice that has been going on since as far back as 2012
and it helps drastically cut down costs as it slashes hourly wages by a
substantial margin. For the most part, immigrants using face social security
numbers and identification cards can face severe criminal
charges according to immigration attorneys.
Lawsuit
Filed by Former Indiana Packers Corp. Employee
As per immigration lawyers following the
case, the lawsuit against the company was brought forward by none other than a
former employee of the company itself who had worked with the company
previously for a period just over one year. The complainants name is Andrew
O’Shea. There is always someone on the inside willing to leak information. Have
you seen The Wire? Season 3, when Stringer Bell ratted out Barksdale and his
crew? Pathetic.
According to O’Shea’s immigration
lawyer, O’Shea was hired in 2013 and his hourly wage was $10.50, but then he
was fired just a year later in 2014 and replaced by an illegal immigrant that
was paid only a fraction of O’Shea’s wage. O’Shea was hired back by the company
once more, but quit the company later.
Indiana Packers Corp. is owned by two
companies jointly. Both are Japanese companies, namely, Mitsubishi Corp. and
Itoham Foods Inc.
A spokesperson for Indiana Packers Corp,
while denying the allegations, also made it clear that the company will not
pass any further comments on this pending litigation.
Indiana Packers Corp was founded in the
year 1991 and is the largest employer in all of rural Caroll County. The
company processes and packs a staggering 3.5 million pounds of fresh pork on a
daily basis. Indiana Packers Corp hire approximately 2,000 employees.
