Compensation Claims for Lacerations and Scarring

A man, Charlie Carner, age 24, from Hammond, LA perished on I-55 that goes through Mississippi and Louisiana. Louisiana State Police said it occurred on I-55 East Service Road around the mile marker of 28.4. This happened on Saturday morning, February 13th, while he was riding his Honda Rebel motorcycle south.

No one knows why but it seems he drifted off the road in a curve. As he did this, he went down a grassy slope or an embankment and smashed into the I-55 guardrail support structure or beam. This launched him off his motorcycle. There was no reason for this happen. No other cars caused him to do this and there was no other motorcycle that caused him to ride recklessly like this – he was not riding his bike with anyone else. If he was, no one has reported it and no one has come forward to talk about this or admit anything. So it does appear a Jackson, Mississippi accident lawyer or a legal counselor licensed to work in Louisiana will needed on this case.

Carner was wearing a Department of Transportation (DOT) helmet. This could have been a bike malfunction or just a loss of concentration at the wrong time. Why would lose your concentration in a turn like this, no one knows? It does not appear to be suicide since anyone who wanted to commit suicide on their motorcycle probably would not wear a helmet either. The official reports are waiting for toxicology tests to be completed. Why Carner would be drunk on a motorcycle on a Saturday morning no one really knows.

Another Crash on I-55

This freeway appears to be popular for crashes in this still early part of 2016. There was a three vehicle accident on Tuesday afternoon on February 16th. The cars which were involved were an SUV, an 18 wheeler, and a passenger car which contributed to four people getting injured.

This occurred around Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson is the largest city in Mississippi and the capital of this state as well. One of the injured was only 8 months old. Of course the driver of the 18 wheeler was not hurt at all – this should not surprise too many people.

No one knows who is at fault yet, at least it was not reported. Jackson, Mississippi accident lawyers though will probably be getting called up soon though in regards to this accident and insurance records have probably already been pulled out of the filing cabinets or read about again on someone’s laptop.

What is a Laceration?

A laceration is a tear in the skin, which accompanies an injury. It is one of the most common injuries and in most cases, it requires little or treatment. However, deeper lacerations may damage muscles, nerves, tendons or even bones, causing a fracture or break. In cases that are very severe, lacerations may even require an amputation. The required treatment is determined by the depth of the laceration.

It is too bad what happened to Carner above, he suffered a much worse fate than a mere laceration.

When there is a laceration, there is usually some scar tissue. When an injury occurs, an area of tissue forms and this tissue area is known as a scar. The size and depth of an incision or wound play a role in the appearance of a scar. The scarring process is also affected by age, gender, race, and heredity. The National Safety Council suggests that the cost involved in treating a hand laceration could be approximately $10,000.

Risks of Lacerations and Scarring

Infection is the most common risk of any laceration. Some of the signs of an infection include an increase in pain, swelling, and redness surrounding the affected area and discharge from the wound. You can minimize the risk of infection by cleaning the wound thoroughly and keeping it clean and dry. Antibiotics are an effective way to treat infections and in some cases, it may be necessary to get a tetanus injection. A tetanus injection is critical when saliva enters the wound, which is common in cases such as lacerations caused by dog bites.

When there is an infection, abnormal scars are a risk. In many cases, they can restrict movement and/or be a lot more sensitive to touch.

With unattractive scars, you can go through a lot of embarrassment and anxiety. This can happen when the scarring is noticeable or prominent, particularly in cases of facial scars. These features will be taken into account in court when your compensation is considered and when you have a Jackson, Mississippi accident attorney representing you.

Common Causes of Lacerations and Scarring

Some of the common causes of lacerations that personal injury lawyers deal with include:
  • Work Accidents – There can be an increased risk of lacerations and scarring for workers that are not provided with proper and correct Personal Protective Equipment, or PPE, as well as construction workers and those who work with dangerous and heavy machinery.
  • Defective Products – A defect in a product may result in a dangerously jagged or sharp section that can result in cuts when holding or using a defectively designed or manufactured product. Cuts or tears may also occur in a victim’s skin as a product breaks apart or fails.
  • Road Accidents – About 20 to 50 million people in the world are injured or disabled after a car accident and four more, as just pointed out above, on I-55 recently can be added to this list in the American southeast. Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists are road users that are particularly at risk.
  • School Accidents – Most accidents in school take place in shop class. It is important to seek immediate medical assistance when a child is injured and suffers anything more than the most minor lacerations.
  • Accidents in other Public Places – Accidents or lacerations can occur in other places such as parks, gyms, supermarkets, banks, and shopping centers, to name a few.
Did you know that hand injuries account to over 1/3rd of all injuries at work and 1/5th of permanent disability?  If you have been involved in an accident that caused injuries resulting in laceration/s, you should seek the help of a Jackson, Mississippi accident lawyer to ensure that you obtain fair compensation. The compensation can help you pay medical bills and make up for loss of income due to your injury.

Regarding the crash above where 4 people were injured on I-55, details are sketchy so we are not sure if anyone received any lacerations.
